This volume includes abstracts of items of genealogical interest from all existing newspapers from Rock Island County for the year 1868. The newspapers frequently included news from Scott County, Iowa and Mercer-Henry Counties, Illinois

Rock Island Evening Argus, January 8, 1868
Joe London, John Burlingame and George Dackers have been arrested for robbing Mr. McManus’ shoe store in Preemption, Mercer County. (Rock Island DAILY UNION of Monday, January 6th) Several months ago, Joseph London and Charles W. Hayford broke into the house of John Good on the Camden road, but then escaped from officers. They were then arrested at Galesburg, Knox County and returned here. The mother of Joe London lives on the Camden Road. Joe was recently arrested again for breaking into Mr. McManus’ shoe store at Preemption. John Burlingame and Mr. Barlow from Davenport, Iowa have also been arrested.
