Rock Island County Illinois Genealogical Society Member Janet Pease started abstracting early Rock Island County newspapers in 1973. Her goal was to make items of interest to genealogists easier to find. What treasures can you find about your family?

From September 30, 1881, Moline Review Dispatch
Mr. Ed Parsonage died Thursday after being kicked by a horse. He leaves a wife and 2 children. The funeral was at the M.E. Church. His parents came from North Drayton, England. His mother, Anna, died about 1856. His father, Samuel, enlisted in a Colorado battery during the war and was killed in a fight with Cheyenne Indians in May 1864 at the Smoky Hill fork of the Kansas River. His body was not recovered from the Indians. The deceased had lived nearly all his life in Moline. He has a sister Mrs. Anna Trego living in Kansas. In 1871 he married Elizabeth, the daughter of the late John King.
