Many legal notices from surrounding counties were published in early Rock Island County newspapers. There are many items from Henry, Mercer, and Warren Counties, and fewer items are from Lee, Jo Daviess and Whiteside Counties, Illinois and Scott County, Iowa Territory. Newspapers abstracted are: Rock Island Banner and Stephenson Gazette, The Upper Mississippian, The Rock Island Banner, Upper Mississippian and the Rock Island Republican, The Northwestern Advertiser and Rock Island Press, and The northwestern Advertiser and Rock Island Whig. 135 pages.

Sketch of the settlement at Cordova: William Marshall, originally from Trenton, New Jersey, still lives at Cordova surrounded by his large family. He had formerly been a member of the lower house of the New Jersey State Legislature. At about the same time that Mr. Marshall came to this county, in 1839, came the Mssers. Cools, Saxton, Ege, Benjamin Marshall and others.
