This volume contains abstracts of information of genealogical value such as vital records, visits from out-of-town relatives and former residents of the county, probate court listings, divorces and real estate transfers.  Other Rock Island County newspapers published in 1879 such as the Rock Islander and the weekly editions of the Argus and Union are not included.

W.B. Hodgson who has been employed at Buford’s Plow Works for nearly 10 years, leaves today for Kansas with his family. He may settle at Ellsworth, 100 miles this side of Trego County. He plans to establish a blacksmith shop. (Union of April 16) he came to this county 11 years ago and first settled at Moline. He moved to Rock Island in 1870. His wife and three children, 2 boys and 1 girl have gone to Dixon, Illinois to visit Mrs. Hodgson’s parents.
