The Milan Weekly Independent, May 8, 1902
This inaugural issue of the paper includes an article on the life of William Dickson, the man who laid out the town of Milan. The article was taken from Dickson’s private journal written for his children and recounts the life of Dickson from his birth in 1783 to his arrival in Illinois where he purchased land that is now part of Rock Island and his eventual move to the area now known as Milan.
