This volume includes information from Mercer County in addition to Rock Island County. RICIGS member Janet Pease abstracted these volumes from the original bound volumes held by the Rock Island County Historical Society.

I.D. Miller of Albany, Oregon is here looking up old landmarks. His father, George Miller, and Uncle John Miller came here in 1834; the town of Millersburg got its name from them. It is claimed that George Miller planted the first field of corn in the county on what is known as the old Ashbaugh place, at Sugar Grove. This is Mr. Miller’s first visit here since 1850. H.W. Thornton of Millersburg showed I.D. an oak in his yard in which the initials “J.M.” were cut in 1834 by John Miller, I.D.’s uncle.
